Messieurs Fowles,
As love seems to be the common topic of conversation in your
town, I here send you a receipt, which if you insert in your
next, may prevent some from drowning or shooting themselves,
as they proceed.
A RECEIPT FOR LOVE.
Address'd to all Gentlemen and Ladies who are troubled with
that Passion.
Tye one end of a rope fast over a beam,
And make a slip noose at the other extreme,
Then just underneath let a joint stool be set,
On which let the lover most manfully get;
Then over his head let the snicket be got,
And under one ear be well fitted the knot;
The cricket kick down! let him take a fair swing,
And leave all the rest of the work to the string.
[signed] Jack Queer.
